Up for sale is a unique, USA-made Ovation 1517 Ultra (circa mid-80s) that has been professionally reimagined as a high-performance acoustic-electric lap steel guitar. If you love that classic Ovation "Deep Bowl" projection but want the sliding soul of a Hawaiian or Country steel, this is the hybrid you’ve been looking for.

The Custom Conversion:
Lap Steel Setup: Modified with a raised nut and bridge saddle to provide the perfect high-action clearance for slide/steel playing. (The original nut and saddle have been retained should a return to the factory spec be desired)
The "Ultra" Foundation: Genuine USA craftsmanship with a solid spruce top and the iconic Lyrachord deep-bowl back for massive unplugged resonance and durability.
Upgraded Electronics: Gone is the basic vintage preamp. It now features a brand-new Prener-PM Dual System. This high-end preamp uses both an undersaddle piezo and an internal microphone, allowing you to blend "air" and "string attack" for a truly natural acoustic tone.
Onboard Control: Includes a 4-band EQ, phase switch, and a built-in chromatic tuner with a clear LCD screen.

Condition & Sound:
The guitar shows some honest vintage character (minor finish checking typical of 80s Ovations), but it is structurally rock solid. Sonically, it’s a beast—the deep bowl gives you a low-end thump that most lap steels lack, while the new Prener-PM system makes it a stage-ready monster when plugged in.
